Question:

How can you calm down when you're feeling anxious?

I suffer from depression and social anxiety disorder, and lately I've been feeling sudden bouts of anxiety for just a minute and then it goes away. Most of the day today, my anxiety has been building up, I don't think it's about anything social, I think it's because I'm depressed and (subconsciously) feel like my life is going nowhere and I'm getting anxious about it. Can you please tell me some ways in which I can calm down, I've tried concentrating on my breathing, and breathing slowly but it's not helping.

All I want to know is how to calm down, I don't want you to tell me to see a psychologist or something =)

  1. Working out.... or sleeping it off but working out is better cause it releases the feeling rather then pushing it aside. That's the only thing that works for me.

    Try running til youre tired, it works seriously!!!!!!!


  2. ok i wont tell you to go to a physiologist.

    How about a therapist.

    I have social anxiety and i do cognitive behavior therapy. I have for the past 6 months and I'm a whole lot better then i was then. It works if you commit to it

  3. well, the best thing to calm you down, sad to admit, is good old xanax, in a small dose...it is a wonder drug...but it can be addictive, and hard to get off of...but let me tell you, it also can be a lifesaver,...or just pray for the good Lord to help you like I do xx

  4. Try drinking a sleepytime tea even if its not bedtime. It will calm you down. Or a chamomile tea.

  6. Aside from psychotherapy and deep breathing, try Vitamin B-complex, regular exercise, and having fun!  They do it for me.  Good luck.
