How can you check if the cow is pregnant?

The amish would swing a nail above the cow's hip bones.  If it went side to side, it's a girl.  If it goes up and down along the spine, it's a boy.  If it wiggles, it won't be born alive, and if it doesn't do anything (maybe a small vibration), she isn't pregnant.

Vets do an exam through the r****m, reaching up to feel the size of the ovary.  Watching to see if a cow comes into heat is the best way though.

was she a cow a few months ago?  weight is a touchy subject with most women and there is really no easy way to approach this.  you could tell her that she is "acting" like she may be pregnant and then get her to take a pregnancy test.  by no means should you relate pregnancy to her weight (what if she's NOT pregnant?)  awkward would be an understatement.
