  1. For the 30% rebate of child care it is no longer done through tax returns. If you are putting in a return you need to wait to hear from them and then you need to give centrelink a call and they do it now. You will need a receipt of how much you paid. From July 1st the new rebate is 50% and it is now going to be given to parents every quarter rather than at the end of the year. You also need to go through centrelink to work out your percentage that you are entitled to so your child care can work out your fees based on that. If you paid too much child care or not enough, centrelink automatically adjusts that after they receive your return information. Still give them a call though and they can give you more info.

  2. For child care costs incurred in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 financial years, the Child Care Tax Rebate is claimed through the Tax Office.

For child care costs incurred in the 2006-07 financial year and onwards, the Child Care Tax Rebate is a payment delivered through the Family Assistance Office.

For more information about the Child Care Tax Rebate payments from the Family Assistance Office :

Telephone the Family Assistance Office on 13 6150 or look at http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/in...

    For Tax Office claims:

Q: Do I need to calculate my total fees figure?

A: No. When you indicate on your tax return that you wish to claim the 30% child care tax rebate, the information is automatically calculated based on information provided by the Family Assistance Office.

Therefore just fill in the Tax return where required and they will check the amounts you paid with the Family Assistance Office.

  3. On Australian tax returns, you never present receipts with the return. You fill in the details about the deduction (name, amount etc) and you must keep the receipts (for 7 years I think) in case you're audited. The government gets a lot of information from child care centres and if you claim too much, they will know you've done so.
