my friend has lovely white teeth ,straight and perfect, but she has a gap between her two front teeth, its very noticeable.she is becoming very self conscious of it and never smiles and she wont date because she is so embarrased of this gap.

should she go to a doctor or a dentist, would she need a brace,is there anything that can be done to push her 2 front teeth closer,so there is no gap?

  1. She should get braces or Invisalign or a retainer. I have a gap too, and this is kinda stupid, but once i stole my friend's brace's rubberbads. I wrapped them aroungd my two front teeth and it started to close up.

  2. There are a couple options. The first is some sort of orthodontic treatment as other have suggested... braces or removable appliance or Invisalign. A consult with an orthodontist is required to determine what type of treatment would work for her case.

Another option is cosmetic repair. This could be done with either bonding material or veneers. Veneers being the best option of these two though also the more expensive. A consult with her regular dentist is needed to determine which of these treatments will work for her.

I'm sure she is self-conscious of her diastima (dental term for that gap) but realize that it's her unique feature. Look at David Letterman, Lauren Hutton or Madonna. With braces and cosmetic dentistry, EVERYONE has perfect, straight, white teeth. Your friend has a trademark look that makes her special. I wouldn't be in a hurry to encourage her to change it... being unique is a rare comodity in this day of look-alike perfection for a price.

    Good luck!

  3. Well she should get braces just to close the gap.

That will take care of it. Pus in her case she probably wouldn't have to have them on for long anyway.

  4. She could get braces or could be a candidate for the Invisalign retainer system that straightens teeth/closes gaps using clear, retainer-like devices.  Bonding could also be an option for her depending on the size of the gap.  A dentist would be able to help your friend determine which option would be best for her.

  5. ohmigosh! i have the same problem. Well actually I wouldn't call it a problem.. Why spend your time worrying about your teeth? They're only there to help you eat. Sure when you smile people will see them, but that's what makes you who you are. If people don't want to date her because of her teeth then they obviously aren't worth her time. I decided not to get braces because i love my gap. It's not very big it's kinda like an upside down v.. and i love it.. it's one of my unique characteristics. You just have to learn to love yourself, because your gonna be with yourself the rest of your life. If it bothers her THAT much, that she feels she needs to be sheltered because of it, then she can get invisaline or braces or a retainer.. something. Just make sure you tell her you love her no matter what she looks like, because in this case that's the only thing she needs to hear.
