How can you comb through dolls hair?

My daughter has some My Little Ponys and Barbies and other dolls with similar silky hair but their hair is so matted. What can I do to it to make it silky and pretty like the day she got them? I have tried to comb the hair but most of it just comes out.

there is a barbie comb or brush, but I use a pick sometimes a tooth pick, do small areas at a time, before I even wash the hair, it you wash it then pick it out you will loose lots of the hair. Wash it in cool water because its plastic, detailer will help the final look. hope this helps

GET SHAMPOO  PUT IT ON HER HAIR THE WASH HER WHILE HER HAIR IS STILL WET COMB IT

I restore vintage Barbies and what i use following a Dawn detergent or Johnsons Baby Shampoo is  either No More Tangles or ordinary liquid  fabric softner (clear color not blue-blue may stain) rinse then comb with pet comb from pet store (made to remove fleas-yuk...I know...but it works great!!!
