How do you know which of one is equivalent to one of the other?

  1. They are both based on the x86 architecture.

    You simply compare things like speed

    CPU Cache

    32bit vs 64bit

    How many cores? (i.e. 2, 4, etc.)

    etc.

  2. AMD generally puts a number and a + sign on the model name of their processor. This is the equivalent speed in MHz of an Intel processor. If you go back far enough, you can actually interchange them on the same motherboard.

    For instance an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ would be an Athlon processor equivalent to a 2.4 GHz Intel processor with the same number of cores.

    I'm not sure if the model I gave is real ornot because I don't like AMD processors, but this is the naming convention.
