How can you convince your company to recycle cardboard boxes for truck?

I work for KB Toys and for truck we have on average 200 - 300 boxes that we break down then throw away instead of recycling. Now we get truck every other week but from august to january we have truck every week and have around 400-500 boxes. That's a lot of cardboard boxes that are just thrown away and not recycled. And all of the KB toys do this, who can I contact to encourage them to have a recycling policy? I am aware I should talk to the head board, but what should I have as evidence that this would be a useful plan?

  1. I know if you approach a Preschool Center and ask the Director if they would like these boxes, you should not be refused.  You would be offering all these children a way to express themselves with a different art medium.  They could build a huge train prior to the Holiday Season like in Polar Express, they could build a gingerbread house, they could build a quiet area to read inside that they can call their own.  They could make a tepee, an indoor igloo, a play house!  The ideas might never stop if you offer them these boxes on a regular basis.  Just think about the positive community impact your company can make on these children!

  2. If I knew where your business is located,; I would recycle them myself.  Those boxes are worth about $40.00 a ton or 2 cents a pound.  If there is a way to contact me thru Answers, please do so.

  3. You could start a petition, or a protest. Or maybe you could write a bill.

  4. I deal with problems like this on a daily basis, and I have found that the best way to convince anyone to change their practices is to show them how it will benefit their operation.  Start with the cost of garbage collection vs. recyclable collection.  Some haulers even include recyling costs in with their garbage collection fees.  Cardboard takes up alot of volume, your company might even be able to reduce the size of their dumpster.  Then, stress the social aspect of it.  Put a cost-benefit analysis together for your supervisor or whoever you need to convince that the idea is worth persuing.  If all else fails, get some like-minded people together within your company to form a sustainability/recycling committee to direct your operation in the right direction (with the approval of management, of course).

  5. maybe you can get a presentation together with facts and statistics based on research and advantages on recycling the boxes. if it's good you could send it to the head office
