  1. If you are landing in Chicago and you see Mayor Daley in a bulldozer, the runway is closed.


  2. Closed runways are marked with a large X on the threshold and Xs posted at the entrances from the taxiways.

  5. Always get the NOTAMS and listen to ATIS.  At silent airports, the big "X" is the main clue.

    inflight: ATIS broadcasted information

    Then there would be a X on the runway

    and you could also listen to ATIS

  8. NOTAMs, ATIS, A/FD, or the big yellow X on the runway.
