How can you discourage big birds like pigeons and magpies from your garden, while retaining the sparrows and?

I am not an industrious nature lover, by which I mmean that I make no extreme efforts to bring nature close so I can enjoy it.  I live near the woods and I take walks and yesterday saw a raccoon walking across the edge of my back yard as I was talking on the phone.  BUT, I have noticed tthat when I toss out the scrraps of bidseed fom my house birds, that the song birds and tthe gentler birds seem to go to the seeds that are in more out of the way places and more hidden and safer like near bushes (or my porch), but the larger birds like the jays and crows (are those magpies?) will march around in he open looking for seeds.  I also remembering mowing grass in a large field at the end of a summer and the lovely songbirds swooping down low all around me to capture the tiny bugs I disturbed.  I felt like the Pied Piper at Snack Time.  I'm sure none of this helped, but I enjoyed telling it.

Here in UK get a gun license and buy a small bore .22 shotgun and shoot the pigeons and magpies which come to your garden - they are verminous pests.

If you cannot do this yourself, hire a gun-owner, vermin controller to do it for you.

Thankfully, my neighbours cat killed the two annoying magpies which kept coming to my garden.  He also killed and half ate one of the fat annoying pigeons too.

When using any hunting gun, shot gun etc., in your garden, always aim away from the house down the length of your garden - down not up and away from neighbours on both sides.

If you are unable to get a shot-gun license - you can legally use an air rifle which is very efficent at shooting vermin and small game at close quarters - 100-150 feet etc.

If you check your local yellow pages - you may find someone who can come to your house and get rid of unwanted birds for you - pigeons, magpies etc.

no, they are all welcome,  a bird feeder or covered bird table will do for the ti ts and sparrows, while chucking other things straight on the floor to let the bigger birds fight over will do for them, come one, come all.

Not much chance of discouraging those ,they go for the dropped seed that the small birds drop.

Put the small seedfeeders in a bird house this may stop the bigguns from getting in.
