  1. A substance has a definite composition like water is always H2O made of two hydrogens and one oxygen.

    A mixture does not have a definite composition like air, it's just a bunch of gases but sometimes one gas can be present more than others so it does not have a definite composition. Air is a mixture of substances but air itself is NOT a substance.
