I'm trying to estimate the IQ of my father so as I can estimate my own...after all, the IQ of a parent is going to be within at least 10 points of their children, if not exactly the same. My father has more quantitative achievements than my mother who has chosen to be a stay-at-home mother. Well, here we are:

-Came to the U.S. at 15, spoke no English.

-Completed highschool by the time he was 17 (was moved up a grade once he arrived here).

-Graduated college with a 3.8 GPA (at this time was proficient with English, but not fluent).

-Was accepted to medical school at the U of I.

-Graduated med. school & completed residency (is a special-specialist) before the age of 30.

-Began private practice at age 31.

I've asked him before and he's estimated his own at about 120-125...is there a chart that has the mean IQ of certain vocations? Suggestions? Thank you in advance.

  1. Have you tried googling it?  Here are some interesting articles I found about the IQ's and EQ's of medical doctors, and about the IQ's of various professionals and IQ's in general.

Why are you trying to estimate your IQ?  If you have been attending U.S. schools all your life, you have probably already been administered at least one IQ test, and it will be contained in your school records.  Ask your guidance counselor for your latest IQ score.  Good luck in your pursuit of the information you seek.

  2. IQ tests don't matter. They're just a stupid way for people to think that they're better than others. In fact, people who think they are geniuses because they got a 170 on an IQ test are actually the dumb ones because an IQ test doesn't test your intelligence, it tests your test taking abilities. And in most aspects of life after college, test taking abilities don't even matter. And when they do, you are able to study for them, unlike an IQ test which is just random and nonsensical questions. SO don't worry about your IQ, if your intelligent, then a test can't tell you otherwise.
