Question:

How can you extract oil from pandan leaves?

it's for a research project. any help is appreciated. i'm gonna make a scented candle from it

  2. You can extract oil with chloroform or acetone.

Well, oil has a low density so if you crushed the leaves and suspended the mash in water, you could scrape the oil off of the top because it is less dense than the water and will float.  You could also boil the water because the oil will not evaporate at the same temperature.  I think the standard method used to extract oils from flora is to mash it up and let the liquids drain.  But, you will need a lot of the leaves because 1 leave doesn't produce much oil.  Try boiling a bunch of leaves in water, remove the leaves, and see what is left over.  The oils will float on the water.
