How can you figure out the genus, species, and family name of plants?

i have to do a science project listing the date collected, where colected, the common name, the family name, the genus and the species (genus and species together is the scientific name) of twenty five plants. and i doo have twenty five common names, but i have no clue what to do next. i also have pictures. :S

Here are some web sites that you can search using the common names and find the scientific names.

There are others, but these should get you started.
