like i'm doing 5k for xc but was wondering how you can make a good estimate of what my time would be.

Like my friend got 5:30 for mile but 25min for 5k...thats like 3 extra minutes per mile.

So if i got 9 minutes on my mile, would my 3 miles time be like 40min coz I have to keep the time where i'm tired in account??

like basically how many extra minutes per mile is it for a 5k?

  1. Bluemonk gave you a great answer but I just wanted to let you know what my personal times are. Everyone is different, and I don't think it is normal for your 1 mile time and your 5k mile to to have a 3 minute difference. I bet your friend is not use to running long distances.

    1 mile time: 7:05

    5K time: 23:25 (7:25 average mile)

So, as you can see my 1 mile time and 5k time only have a 20 second difference. However, I'm use to running long distances and not really good with speed. Also, my 1 mile time is just based on me going to the track and testing myself. It wasn't a race, so I'm sure I'd be faster in a race.

  2. if you run a 8 min mile you have no business running unless you are running to get faster at running in which you shouldnt be in a race

  3. Personal times:

    Mile: 5:13

    3 mile: around 20 minutes

you decrease 5-10% in speed each time the distance doubles.

so im guessing around 30-33 minutes for your time

  4. you can go to this one website:

    http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/

and then go to the mcmillan running calculator

you can enter in your mile time and it gives you an estimate of your times for all different kinds of events and also what your easy run pace and other paces should be,so its pretty cool.

i would guess your time would be maybe around the 30s, for me my mile time is 5:43 and my best 5k is 20.06  so my 5k miles are only a minute slower then my best mile. so that could be the same for you or not. it also depends on how your training and the course.

    good luck!
