  1. find a friend or relative who knows how 2 swim, have them teach u at a local pool or something

  2. If you already know how to swim, search for the nearest Masters Swimming and join their workouts.  Most allow you to swim without having to compete.  There's usually a coach there that could refer you to an instructor if they aren't willing to do it themselves.  Just being part of the workouts and swimming with people who do or used to swim competitively will be great instruction in itself.

  3. Hello.  Some Parks & Recreation Departments and Private Swim Clubs offer individual or group adult learn-to-swim lessons.  Start with your local Recreation Department.  You can also call the American Red Cross and see who they might recommend.  YMCA is another possibly resource.

Some instructors will do private lessons.  Ask to see their training certifications, though.  There are many unqualified persons out there representing themselves as Swimming Instructors.  Even certified swimming instructors may not have much experience teaching adults.  Try and find an Instructor experienced with adults, as many of the teaching techniques that work best with adults are different from what works best for children's lessons.

Learning to swim is a great idea at any age.  It opens up a wide range of athletic and recreational opportunities.  Good Luck!

  4. Go to your local YMCA.They do not care how old you are.And if your embarrass about your age take a smaller child in the family with you,

They will in enjoy it also.
