  1. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov

That is the official govt. website for financial aid, if you are under 24 you will need your parents tax info to fill it out.  The only way out of that is to be in the military or be married, or be the primary caregiver for a child.  If you are over 24 then you just need your own taxes if you filed.  Fill this out immediately since most schools have already past their priority date.  You also want to have filled out your admissions application and filed a degree plan at the school you plan to attend because most financial aid offices require you to do that before being awarded.  Go into the financial aid office of the school you plan to attend and get all of the info about the pell grant this week or next.  Sometimes there are additional grants specific to your state of residence or for recent high school graduates.  Of course, these are need based grants and are determined according to yours or your parents income.  If your parents make too much money then you may have to go with loans.

  2. Federal Student Aids is a program from the US Department of Education that can help provides you a list of government grants ,student financial aid and funding education beyond high school.  These programs provide more than $80 billion a year in grants, loans, and work-study assistance.
