There are two meaning for frequency. Once is how often it occurs.This is not considered in seismology. The wave frequency is the one where we must have close watch on it. The frequency means how many times the waves goes up and down per second.It is denoted  by HZ. Normally for earthquakes it is from 0.5 to 15.If the frequency of earthquakes matches with the building natural frequency the resonance effect will damage the building seriously.Some times tall buildings will with stand for the quakes were as short height buildings will be damaged if the frequency of earthquakes are more.It will be reverse in the case of low frequency.Past records of seismograph can determine the frequency of earthquake for that area. The inverse is called the period.That is the time taken to complete one cycle.This will increase by 0.1 second per floor height.
