  1. If you know for sure an obituary was published, what I have done is a "free search" on the deceased person's online local paper (every paper has an online version now).   Usually with the free search, you get the first couple of lines.  Many times that is enough.  If it means that much to you, you can then pay the local paper (usually the original publisher) for a copy.  Or, you can go to your local library and if it is a popular paper (like the NY Times) or if the library is in the same geographic area they will carry the local paper usually on microfiche (sp?) and for like 10 cents you can print out your own copy there.  Good luck.

  2. If you know the location of the deceased, you can usually call a local library and Research will be happy to assist you either with microfiche'  or  saved newspapers.

You may be able to go online for an archive connected to that particular obituary and locate it.  I'd start with the library and Research department.  Good luck.

  3. Think of your sentence structure.

Do you think someone that passed away a few years ago would want an obituary free or not?
