You can go online and put your area of the country in, and do a google. It should produce a list of haunted locations. Such as johnstown+hauntings. Also check online for paranormal groups in your area that might be offering tours, or joing up with them to learn. Its a great experience...

I suggest you join a few forums to get the feel of things, understand terms and equipment used.

It may be possible to meet a member by you and investigate locally.

Buy a few books on the subject at second hand bookshops to check out some historical stuff.

A decent book on meditation techniques/ psychic protection would be advised.As would visualisation practices.

Any old areas of habitation will provide residual hauntings, you just need to be open to them, and in a calm relaxed frame of mind.

Usually evening is the best time as it is quieter.

Some may have active spirits. which you will learn to sense if you don't actually see them. Be aware of how your feelings and emotions change, or any images that flash in front of your eyes- this is another form of communication.

Places with lots of history.  History of war, or tragedies, etc.

St. Augustine is a great place.  I went on a tour of St. Augustine and I saw some pretty weird things.

Or, you can come check out my house...I live on Indian Grounds, and freaky stuff happens here all the time.

There are many forums out there for paranormal investigations.  I'm a member of the TAPS forum. (tapsmainforum.com)  They have a special section for paranormal locations where you contact others in your state and area.  It's also a great place to get equipment advice, and even check out other investigators finds.

Hi. The Shadowlands maintains a great directory of haunted places.  Also, Ghost Hunting Secrets has published an excellent article about how to find haunted locations in your area.  Cemeteries are always a good bet.  Every town (no matter how small) has at least one cemetery. You can also call your local research librarian.  Librarians love to help you find things, and they can usually provide you with a long list of haunted places in your city.
