How can you find out exactly why a person is in prison?

My ex is in prison and he won't tell me what he did, is there a way I can get some details?

  1. First, you can search his name on the s*x offender registry.  www.familywatchdog.us.  

    If that does not lead you to an answer of why he's in prison, try simply searching his name in google.  Search it within quotation marks, for example you'd just type "John Smith" and search.  If he does have a common name, such as John Smith, you could put "John Smith" and the word Sentenced in the search bar, too.

    If you have a little money to spare, for $50 you can pull up his criminal record at http://www.dmv.org/criminal-records.php.  Again, it's little pricey, so it's all depending how badly you need to know.


  2. If you know the county where he was prosecuted for the crime, you can go to the clerk of criminal courts and look at the docket entries. It won't cost you anything.

  3. You can start by going to www.criminalsearches.com and look up his arrests and convictions.  Then you can go to the county of conviction and look up the court file to see if you can find more specific facts behind the cases.
