How can you find out if there are insurance policies on someone?

I have an aunt who passed away and I can not find some of her paperwork.

In her personal or financial records.  How do you know a policy exists?

If you have access to her checkbook see if there are any entries that pay for premiums to a life insurance company.

There are companies that will do a search of applications submitted but you would have to be the appointed executor and the application would have to have been submitted within the last 10 years.
