I've been told there is a "sweep number" 1-817-284-7847 that can be used to verify if your phone is tapped or not. Any comments on fact/fiction, or how to utilize the number?

  1. call the number and state that you want to (enter terrorist act) the ( location)  and wait for the feds to show up

    no feds = no tap

  2. There is no rock solid way to tell if your phone is tapped.  Depending on who would be doing it, the type of technology that your phone company is using to get your service to your house, there are a ton of different ways that your line could be tapped.  The right person can do it with a $5 phone from Wal-Mart, and a splice into the right cable pair.....viola!  they have just successfully tapped your line and can now hear/record everything thing want.  Granted this would be a method of a average punk trying to spy on you.  If your line is tapped by pro's there is electronic equipment that will allow the proper authories audible access to your line without you EVER knowing.  Especially now days with telecommunications leaning more and more towards the IP world......it's easier than you think.  Keep in mind that even the people that have the technology to do this must have a court order to do it.

  3. unfortunately, there is no way to check for tapped line except for some visual inspection of the actual telephone lines. With that said, there isn't many places it can be. Most if not all telephone are buried unground or run through manholes in the ground. These locations are not accesible to tapping unless the person knows your cable pair information (colors not telephone number) and is willing to stop traffic or dig a big pit. However, there is a few locations to tap if you have the right equipment. The neighborhood "b box" where all lines come in, and the telephone pole or pedestals on your block. Again, is this person willing to climb a pole to monitor a call? The most logical place for a tap is on the side of your house where the service enters the house. If you haven't seen anyone with a phone in your yard, your line probably hasn't or isn't being tapped.

  4. Just listen carefully, you can usually hear if the phone is tapped or not. If you're suspicious on your next few phone calls listen out for strange 'ticking' noises. It's quite easy to spot. You could also just phone your cell phone so you can really concentrate on the ticking noise.

  5. simply no way,if the tappers got brains
