How can you find when someone died, I don't have SS# or dob, just town and appx yr?

I had a lady who raised me for many yrs and her grave needs a head stone. This happens over 30 yrs ago but there is no one to ask for info

  1. Try the web site below

  2. Do a search on the social security death index. You can just enter their name, then scan through the results until you find someone who died in the appropriate place, at the appropriate time.

  3. go down to city hall with her name and approximate date of death or year and they can look it up. depending on how busy they are it should take a day or two

  4. Send me her name and the town. I'll be happy to look it up for you.

  5. You need to go to the local newspaper in that town and check the back issues for the year she died.

    I started researching My grandfather on my father's side, and the only source I could find on him was in the local newspaper for that year... and I even knew when he died because it's on his headstone.

    You can also try Ancestry.com  but it's not easy to find the history on someone.
