  1. You can get back home as long as you have your passport.  And if you lost that, then you just go to the American Embassy and they ask for your SS# and they make you a new passport.

NEVER LOOSE YOUR PASSPORT IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY. NEVER....

Its a pain in the behind.

  2. in that situation, you're kind of screwed.  Make sure u have photocopy of all id left in your hotel room, then go to your consulate wherever you are and get them to help you.  It's the only way.

  3. I agree with the first answer - make photocopies of all your ID and also bring a copy of your birth cirtificate with you.

If your passport is lost, be sure to photocopy the information page in it (the page with your picture) and have some spare passport photos on hand (you can get them made at a chain pharmacy that has a photo department, like Walgreens). Keep all these documents in a small binder and put it in a safe place while you're traveling. DO NOT LOSE IT!!

If you lose your passport, take that binder and go to the nearest US Embassy to get a new one.
