How can a 16 year old get birth control, without telling her parents. I need some because I here it helps with period pain and regulating your period. Mine is always to early or too late, and I a few times my period has lasted for about two weeks. I know it helps with acne too, which is always a plus :)

But I know about the patient/doctor confidentiality, but I can't talk to him about it because my mom always wants to be in the doctors office with me. I live in Alabama, so want would I need to obtain birth control? Thank you for the answers in advance!

  1. I would say that you should maybe talk to your mom about it, then go to the doctor with her and have the doctor explain that the pill should help with your problems. I would say that 16 is rather young to start the pill, as there are also possible side effects, weight gain being the most common. Also if you have only just started getting your period it may take about a year to be regular. You can try to go to planned parenthood, if you really do not want your mom to know, but then you would have to pay for it yourself. I would say just try to talk to her and explain why you need it. It could be a lot easier then hiding it from her, because you would need to get a refill once a month, and unless you drive you may need someone else to take you. hope this helps, best of luck :)

  2. Ask your mom again about it and tell her your problems.

  3. Planned Parenthood. You can buy them there and they won't charge much. Better call before you go to find out if you have to have a pap smear before they will give them to you.

  4. ^Actually, yes, a normal doctor can prescribe it (at least here in VA) but you will eventually have to go to a gyno when you start having s*x or have children, so you might as well start sometime.

Confidentiality is a little open-ended until you're 18 so your doctor might still tell your mother (but no, he's not supposed to.)

You can possibly go to a health clinic but they might require you to show proof of age-- again, meaning 18.  Birth control also costs. At the cheapest, it's $15.  My last brand was $29 and my new prescription is $55 (I'm hoping I can get my insurance to cover at least some of that-- eek!)

I don't know what your mom is talking about with your period changing... it's not going to turn blue or anything.  At most, it will get lighter, shorter or more regular.  If you don't have a boyfriend, your mom shouldn't think that it's an excuse to have s*x and pardon me, but that's a S****y excuse not to have contraception because kids will still have s*x without protection.  Try asking her if she's ready for grandchildren-- haha.

You could always insist that your cramps have become unbearable (which may require some acting to proove it), or that you get severely depressed and moody during PMS.

I wouldn't try to hide it from your parents.  I didn't tell mine, but I was 19 and an adult I went to the gyno alone because I wanted to start having s*x with my boyfriend and I didn't want any accidents.

  5. maybe go to a family planning clinic. i'd advise you to discuss it with your mother, the pill has been used for YEARS to control periods and acne, so you'd be surprised at her reaction. my own mother actually recommended this to me when I was 15!

  6. why wouldn't you want to tell your mom  ? if it has to do with your period then she shouldn't have a problem with it . anyway , you can go to a clinic alone . say you're going to a friends house or something =P

  7. well personally i'd just tell your mom what you told us.

you don't want it for birth  control you want it to help regulate your period.

if you are trust worthy she shouldn't accuse you of wanting it so you could go have s*x.

is there a reason why you would think she wouldn't "let" you go on it?

she can't stop you from going on it.

or if you feel you really can't let her in on it then when you go to your doctor tell her you are a big girl now and would like to go in by yourself. and you'd like privacy cuz you are old enough that you'd rather not have her sittiong right there when the doctor asks you questions.

and i'm not positive if all doctors work this way but usually you can't get bc pills from your regular doctor you are supposed to go to a gyn for that. so i'm not sure if your doctor will be able to prescibe the pill to you anyways.
