How can you get protein on a raw diet?

My mother and I are thinking about going raw, but she was worried about how she would get protein. She is allergic to nuts, and unwilling to eat raw fish. What other ways could she get protein?

Currently she eats all vegetables, chicken, fish, eggs, and few dairy products, because she is lactose intolerant.

  1. Sprouted beans is your only way to go.

I would suggest cooking food, though.

Who thumbed me down? Unsprouted beans are not edible.

  2. A raw diet is overrated and sometimes dangerous. Cooking allows the human body to get more nutrients from a food source than what we'd get if eaten raw. Cooked food and more meat in the diet is also credited for allowing humans to grow larger brains.

I still love sushi and rare to medium rare steaks, but cooking is a good thing.

  3. She can get protein from lentils and beans.  Is she allergic to all nuts, or just some?  If she's not allergic to soybeans she can get protein from tofu - which can be dressed up in many different ways.  If she is giving up "traditional" protein sources, she should check with a nutritionist to make sure she is getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs to be healthy.

  4. eggs are a form of protein so eat those raw i guess. I think you have to measure up your pros and cons here.. if she already cant eat nuts and unwilling to eat raw fish I think you just have to come to a healthy conclusion and include some cooked fish. Nobodies saying you need to cook with oil- water is just as convient. The problem with 'diets' is that its a mental thing. Some people just do not suit extreme diets like these and in fact they end up being unhealthy. If you are using more energy then you consume that is a big no no. People do need fat, natural fats found in nuts and meats. So dont go overboard. Do your reasearch

  5. Peas have a good amount as well.

If you are willing to eat only 75% raw (as many do), you can consume beans and rice as part of one meal.

  6. Nuts, legumes, seeds, peas, sprouting beans
