  1. If you can put it back together again, you should be able to use the laptop with a cheap external monitor, depending on the VGA port capability. Saves an expensive repair or scrapping it altogether.

In the meantime, as others suggest, put the drive in an external USB enclosure and connect it to another machine.

There is also a cheap adapter card you can buy which would allow you to add the drive internally to a PC, using standard cable connectors.

  2. Absolutely,

You can get an adapter that will hook your old laptop hard drive to a usb port, or an adapter that will hook it to a desktop pc.  Then it is just like a cd or floppy disk.  You can see, delete, add, or copy data to or from it.  For the adapter, try out www.zipzoomfly.com and search for 2.5" hard drive adapter.  Good luck.

  3. Hi Bruce,

If u have a desktop monitor, jsut connect the monitor to the Lappy and reboot it.

This will enable the monitor 1st and u can take what all u want form it.

    OR.

Take out ur Hard disk and give the laptop for replacement of Monitor.

  4. If the computer's already in pieces, you might as well take the hard drive out completely and get a USB hard disk enclosure so you can use the hard drive as an external disk.

  5. The best way to do this is to pick up a 2.5" USB hard drive enclosure from a local computer store. Cost $5 - $35.  Insert the drive in to the enclosure and plug it in to the USB port of a working computer.

The data will appear as an additional drive letter.  i.e.  g:

Copy it onto another drive for safe keeping.

  6. MOST laptops have a video connector that you can connect a regular monitor to.

*IF* you had given your laptop's Make and Model number I could offer more specific help
