I was wanting a puppy next year so I'm looking and learning about some breeds. The height only measures up to the withers(shoulders)and I need to know how high up it is to the top of his head. I can only get a dog that is less than 2 feet or at....sadly.So if you could tell me,that would be great.Any website recommendations would be greatly appreciated.I'm thinking about getting one of these breeds.

Havanese,Maltese,Bichon Frise,Coton de Tulear,West Highland White Terrier,Lowchen,Silky Terrier,Yorkshire Terrier,Cavalier King Charles Spaniel,Poodle(toy),Norfolk Terrier,Cairn Terrier,and Chacy Ranior.

If you own a male dog that is one of these breeds, could you tell me how tall he is?

And I have been just wondering if the Chacy Ranior were really a breed.I looked on google images and there aren't that many of them.

Thanks for your answers.

  1. you can estimate that a dog under two feet will have a heigh to shoulder of about 10-14in so that might narrow your search.... its not exact.

look for a small dog with a personality to match your life style, then look at your local ASPCA, or shelters, or look on petfinder.com, you can find some wonderful dogs that may other wise not have a home at all...

  2. All dogs are measured to their withers. Keep in mind that terriers are notorious diggers! Cav's are great dogs.

  3. people usually measure the dogs from foot to shoulders...

  4. Dogs are measured at their shoulders.. that's pretty standard and universal when it comes to measureing dogs.

Some dogs carry their heads higher than others, depending on the bone structure, and the dog's mood, if he's dominant/submissive, etc.

My Crested is about 13 1/2 inches at the shoulder, and not including ears, is about 19 inches to the top of his head.

My cousins mixed breed dog is about 16 inches at the shoulder and about 20 to the top of her head..

Measuing to the head tho is not as accurate as the dog could be holding his head high, or could be hunkering down in a submissive position.  I got a far more accurate measurement on my Crested because he's used to me handling him for weird things like measurements..  my cousin's dog tried to hunker down because she's not used to that.

Why does the dog have to be under 2 ft at the head?

Chacy Ranoir is not an established purebred, no.  It was originally called the "shichon".  I'd question this one, as according to dogbreedinfo.com, the breed appears to have no health problems... which is next to impossible.  Even with proper health testing and studying pedigrees, health problems still crop up in dogs.  It still looks like a desginer mutt to me, as there is no purpose behind it, except a companion dog.  They have a "club".. but there doesnt appear to be any kind of written standard for the dog.

  5. I own a Westie named Noah, and he is over 2 feet from paws to head I'm pretty sure.

It kind of sounds like you live in an apt. and if you do, a Westie is not a good choice of dog. Also, if you live in an apt then they are not going to measure from paws to head, they will measure from paws to withers.

  6. well unless you see the dog as an adult you can only go by the shoulder height. dog aren't measured from the feet to head only feet to shoulders

you can look up the breed you want and just add a few inch. and will it really matter if it's over 2 feet just by a little?
