How can you get your dog to like swimming?

my dog is 4 years old and still hates the pool in my backyard.

how would we be able to make him more comfortable around water?

well i went to a lake with my dog and we went down by the water.

at first he was not happy with the water at all, then he gradually put his feet, his legs, and then his whole body in the water.  Take hims somewhere that he can gradually get in the water so that he takes it one step at a time.

teach him to like it by first playing by the pool and giving him treets for being good and put his fav toy in the pool and convence him too go in and eventually he'll get used to it

honestly he or she may never like water. i know people that have labs and some of them don't like water and thats not normal for not to like water at all. my rottweiler loves water she can't wait to get a bath i can't even put the water in the tub and she is already in it. i just think you have to get them as a puppy and take them to a lake or pond for them to like water or get a dog that that loves water.

You may not be able to get him to like swimming. I have 4 GSDs. One of them loves the water, swimming, splashing spraying, any water play. Two of them like it a bit and the fourth one will only play in water sprayed from a hose. In my opinion, give the dog a chance to play in the water if he wants to but do not push it. Have you tried letting him play in a kiddy pool?
