You actually hook up the CABLE box TO HT system - using one of the digital or analog outputs.

The video connection can be either via HT ot directly form the cable box to the TV.

best way is too hook the caable into the tv, then run an audio cable from tv out to audio in on the reciever. Turn on the tv and reciever, seitch the reciever to the input you plugged it into (example video one, DTV), and now you have surround sound tv. If you have a high definition tv then the tv probably has optical audio out and RCA (red, white) out. In this case use the optical out as it carries full 5.1/7.1 surround instead of just steoreo like the RCA cables. But the connection process is the same, just a different cable.
