Question:

How can you help someone overcome addiction?

I watch my boyfriend struggle with his addiction to cigars and I don't know what to do to help him stop. He'll cut down for a while out of guilt, but it always gets as bad as it was before. He withdraws physically and thats when his will breaks down. Any minor thing can set off his temper or cause him frustration and he will cave in to his craving because "he deserves it".

Should I start to nag him about it, or will this just push him away from me?

  1. You cannot help anyone do anything that they do not want to do.

Does he really really want to quit?

Or is this something YOU want?

No do not nag him about it. Yes he will push away from you if you do. If you really do not like it and it is making that big of a fuss maybe he is not the guy for you.

    Or

If he really wants to quit there are other things out there.

    *EDIT*

Redirect his attention. If you are in an area where you can tease him with something else like s*x do that.

    or

whatever else he likes start talking about it start a conversation

  2. Nagging will make him smoke more. If the fear of cancer and death don't scare him enough to quit, why would you think you can? Sorry

  3. You got with him knowing he smoke, what changed.....

You can not change people  no more then you change the way the tide rolls.

Keep nagging and he will get wise and dump you, be careful of nagging. Maybe spend time on changing your bad habits first (such as this nagging), then you might learn bad habits are hard to break.

    Good luck
