Question:

How can you keep glasses clean?

My glasses seem to get smudged and smeary a lot, so it's not great to look through. But then when I clean it with the cleaning cloth it just makes it worse.

I have got cleaning fluid for them but it still leaves them smeary sometimes and it gives me a headache.

Any tips?

  1. ruffle up a piece of clean news paper so it becomes sort of soft, and then haze up the lenses with your breath - it cleans all gunk and leaves the lenses totally clear. toilet paper also works, but use a clean piece every time you re-wipe them....

  2. windex? haha

  3. Your problem is a common one when the glasses aren't fitting right.

If your eyebrows are often touching the top of the lenses, or if the bottom of the frame is touching your cheeks, then natural body oils get on the lenses and it is very hard to clean.

Your nosepads maybe need changing too, especially if they are the soft silicone pads . They get oily rather fast and then just keep spreading it over the lenses when you wipe them.

Oils from makeup also often get between the frame and the lenses letting it seep out a bit everytime you wipe them.

Try swishing your glasses around in warm, mild, soapy water in a bowl once a day . That should help get rid of any oily buildup that may be happening on them. Most liquid dish soaps do a fine job.

And...NEVER use newspaper or Windex !

  4. I agree with footprintz and if you are using a microfiber cloth , wash it. It traps all the dirt and oil from your lenses and will just redistribute the junk around the lenses when you wet them. Just avoid fabric softener when washing, it prevents the cloth from absorbing liquids as well. It's likely you have an anti-reflective coating on your lens and probably a lousy one if you got them at a walmart type place. Some are more difficult to clean than others.
