How can you look up the history of the house you are living in ?

I feel as if my house is haunted I would like to known if I could research on the history of the land I am living on!

  1. Check with your county recorder, they can tell you when and how many times it has been sold and the $ .


  2. Many counties now have their property appraiser's websites now online.  That can give you the general history of you home of the last few purchases.  It should also list when the house was built and give the tax folio#.

    Once you have that number and any other legal description of the property, you should be able to go to the County's property records depository location and look up what you seek to know.

    Once you have names and general dates for your house you could then go to your local library branch that should have microfiche (or similar) copies of the local newspapers.  Ask a librarian what would be the quickest way to take the information you've gleaned from public records and use it to find out about the families that lived in your home.
