If you start drawing before your full retirement age you will lose benefits if you continue to work and earn over the maximum.  Survivors who have non-SoSec retirement income, think school teachers, will have survivors benefits cut.  You also lose Social Security if you are in jail or prison.


  2. There are numerous ways to lose benefits. The answer will depend on what type of benefits you receive. If you get SSDI you can earn a certain amount per year before you lose the benefits but must remain disabled. If you get SSI and your income goes above a certain amount you will lose the benefit even if you are still disabled. If you are getting SSI as a child of a deceased or disabled parent at some point you will "age out" and stop getting benefits. If your collecting SSI as retired but are under a certain age you will lose benefits if you earn over a certain limit. Give more info for a more specific answer or check on the SSI website.
