I got my letter in the mail yesterday to join the People to People Student Ambassador program, and I was so excited when I found out what it's all about. Then, I thought about how spectacular the program was, and I knew this wouldn't be free- I had to figure out the cost. I did some research, and people said that it's thousands of dollars, $6,000-$8,000.
My destination is England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. My meeting is in mid-September, so I wanted to get a head start on raising money for the cost. I saw on another question that they split the cost in half, and on one question a guy's bill was due by the end of December. If this is true, I really need to get a head start.
How can I raise money so that the cost will not be so much? Are there any programs or scholarships out there that would help pay for this expensive trip? I'm in the 8th grade and 13, and I am willing to work very hard to go on the trip. I'm sure it's worth the cost.
My older sisters both got the letter, but they couldn't go due to the cost. I talked to my mother about it, and she sounded so sad when she said she wasn't able to send any of her kids, yet. I want to be able to go, and I'm not discouraged by my sisters (I talked to my oldest, and she said she didn't know she could get money to help pay for it). My family is going through tough times, and hopefully they could be able to spare a couple hundred dollars if I work hard and delete the rest of the cost.
I'm probably going to have to give up other summer camps, too, because of the cost.
So please, I'm begging for your help. Is there any programs out there to help me? Are there any scholarships suitable for my age? What businesses would be likely to help me out? What are some other ideas to help receive and raise money? Would my school even be interested in helping (AISD) me, or is that not likely?
Thank you so much for your time in this. I appreciate it. :)
