So my dream college is Pasadena Art Center which is over all a 100K school (well... not including the books and supplies). Oh, and I live in southern california. Last night me, my mom, and my dad had a long talk about the money. They say that they are going to help me with the apartment and food money but NOT the tuition money because "making 100K by your self will teach you the importance of money and the value".. and to make it worse, they have the money and we practically live in a huge house. So now I have to figure out how to make 100K (at least 80K) in one year (Im actually in community college now, and I am planning to transfer next year). I read some blogs and articles on how people make that kind of money (even more) by being an eBay selling, waitress in fancy restaurant, or just selling the most demanding hot dogs in the street! And I thought to my self ".... you gotta be sh**ing me.. no way". So I was wondering what you college students do to pay off your tuition. I mean, I dont want to be those adults who later pay they're tuition that they borrowed from the government. I mean, come on! thats just a pain in the ***!

So, share some of your experiences and jobs that you have taken (that doesn't require any degree) that made you a step close to making 100K a year.

Cheers

  1. If anyone had the answer to make 100k a year without having a degree then you wouldn't need to go to college.  The best money I've seen so far as a part-time is serving at a restaurant and even then you won't even come close to 100k.  The guy who replied 1st is right, there's no way you would make 100k now to get a 35k job, that's not realistic...your best bet is to get financial aid or loans, and pay it off yourself after you graduate, that's more realistic than trying to make 100k this year.  If you worked a full-time job (40 hrs a week), you would have to be making about 52 dollars an hour, which is pretty much impossible for a high school grad.

  2. So; you want to make $100K in a year, so that you can graduate with a degree that will get you a job that will average you about $35k a year?

It sounds to me that your family is trying to discourage you from the arts school.  If you, as a student, can wrangle $100k in a year, you have NO need for any college... you've got enough business sense to get by on your own.

  3. You have smart parents!
