my friend is pretty good at keeping a beat. so to put him the the test, we need some sort of drum set that sounds similar to real drums. the music we are gonna be playing is mainly deathcore. right now we can't afford drums nor do we know yet if he has any talent or not until we get close to the real thing. thanks to anyone who makes a suggestion.

  1. Try different sizes of plastic buckets, one and five gallon.  You can tape padding to the inside to make the pitch go down for more drums.  Building a frame is going to be a challenge, but the buckets would work great for the drum itself.  I've seen street musician do this with great results.

  2. I know of one person who is experimenting with PVC material to make drum shells out of.  Honestly though for your position it would be cheaper to purchase them from a company than to try and manufacture them yourself.  They are able to make them cheaper then you could on your own because they have professional manufacturing equipment and an assembly process.

    Sorry.

  3. I presume deathcore means you are gonna be bashing on these drums? If so, unless you have a machine shop, and can work in high quality steel, you are better off buying real drums.

    Good luck.
