  1. teach them phonics. read to them, whether the follow along or not. following is better, but not necessary. you don't say how old the person is or what(if any) learning disabilities they may have so this is very general.

  2. You can work with them all you want and it won't do any good unless they are in good physical health. I hated reading. I could never keep my attention for more than a few minutes at a time. I would lose my place before I even got to the end of the sentence. I hated it so much,I pushed it away and refused to pursue it. Oh yes  I can read ,but if there is something that has a lot of it to do, again I push it away. After all those years, they have came out with the diagnosis of ADHD. I have never been evaluated with it,but suspect that was the culprit. To this day I can't seem to get from one room of the house to the other without starting something completely different as I go along. My point being,is there a possibility of this? Byee

  3. You can't.

However you can learn to nurture.

Look for the need in each person.  What do they find difficult, what mistakes do they make? Can you research coping strategies, you can then pass on to them, with care and sensitivity?

Can you make it more intersting so the lessons stick?

  4. increase ur reading speed

  5. Start with the simple ones.  Repetition is also important.

  6. A younger child you would find what they are interested in. Make a game of it and help them understand what sounds the letters make. A good website to print pages off is kindergarten.com. An older child I prefer reading things they are interested in comic books or stories about things they like. Make spelling lists of things you see they do not pronounce well. Work with them on it. An adult well you would help them the same way as a middle or high-school student. I have an alphabet train that helps young children. Making a song with the letters really works. A for young children is the letter factory. You can get it from amazon pretty cheap. It works wonders with kids. It's fun and it keeps the attention all the while teaching pronunciation.
