i want my computer to run better because i hook my xbox up to it for live. but the computer is making it lag. please be detailed. thanks

For running slow there are many causes:

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

Spyware/Adware

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc:

For  IE, click Tools, Internet Options  delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

Manage your startup:

Open your Start menu  ->  Click Run ->  In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" ->  In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab ->  Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

De-Fragmenting

1. Right click of C Disk.

2. Click properties.

3. Click tools tab.

4. Click "Defragment now".

5. Click Defragment.

You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

Under steps:

1. right click on the TaskBar.

2. click the Task Manager.

3. click the processes tab.

4. double click the CPU.

5. find if the "System Idle Process" is max.

6. if not right click and click end process.

what is the question?  If your computer runs slow during gameing then it sounds like you need to boost up your memory. if it runs slow all the time then run your antivirus program, delet all unwanted or unused programs on the computer from add/remove programs in the control pannel. and remove all viruse programs but the one you use (another wards do not use conflicting software)

hey.. try closing anything else that is using the internet at the same time.. like messenger, internet explorer.. stuff like that.. also, you may want to call your internet company and find out if they have a plan for xbox live users.. a lot do..

plus, try cleaning out your cookies/temp files in internet explorer.. just click on tools > internet options > then click on delete cookies and then delete files.. this should clear anything getting in the way of ur connection

By having as little software on it as possible, overloading a system with too much software is the biggest cause of  slow down.

The next biggest cause is a lack of RAM, for XP you need a minimum of 512MB and Vista needs 2GB to run properly.
