Question:

How can you make your phone call you back?

When I was younger I remember you were able to dial in a code on a landline and then hang up and a few moments later the phone would ring. I can't remember if there was a message or anything and I can't seem to recall what number I dialed (not the phone #). Does anyone out there know?

  1. Due to abuse, and newer central office equipment, those old 'ring back' numbers are literally non-existant now..If an installer wants to ring a phone, he justs clips onto another 'pair' and dials the number, or uses his cell phone, or has the test board call. It is an unnecessary feature for the phone company now.

  2. There is still ring back, but the phone companies no longer give out that info. The phone companies now use different codes for different areas.

  3. you simplpy put in your number, then when you pick it up you will hear beeps

  4. I remember that too....

Ringback in most Central Offices is now non-existant:

  5. i remember that too. it was handy when you had multiple phones in your house (especially multistory houses). you could use the phone as an intercom system. if you were in the kitchen, you could use this method to call someone on the third floor, for example.

sorry, i don't remember the number. it was really just a special code number the phone technician could use to test phones in your house. i haven't had a land line for many years now, so have no need to remember it.
