  1. Yes you can control your dreams if you want to.  As you go to sleep think of the things you want to dream about.  Don't let the things you don't want to dream about come to mind.  I often put on the music i like the best and let it play all night.  While you are sleeping you will still have some awareness of the music.

    Sweet Dreams,

    $.05 please

  2. the ability to control your dreams can sometimes be handeled by your stress level. as long as there's not too much on your mind then you might have more pleasant dreams.

such as how if something's really bothering you, you get nightmares

  3. You don't; its your brain's way of getting rid of unecessary garbage.  People do indeed go insane if they don't dream.  You know what the second most common cause of insanity is, besides a traumatic life?  Believe it or not, sleep deprivation, and not sleeping dreamfilled nights.  Some people have frequent nightmares; part of the reason I myself have trouble falling asleep is all the nightmares.  Its like, every time you go to bed, a nightmare.  However if you let yourself sleep and have some courage, in time the nightmares stop.  However I have only been marginally successful; I have yet to fix my sleep schedule.  It is something you need to take care of though; not dreaming, will make you go crazy.

Dreams, are more than your brain's screen saver.  Their primary function, and this is my own hypothesis here I did not get this from anything in my Psychology studies as a Psych major, is to allow the mind to distinguish between reality and fantasy, the real and unreal, while at the same time keeping the imagination active so that the mind can use it as a tool for problem solving.  See, here is the thing about the brain, and also the thing about the mentally ill which is why people are scared of them; the brain is reliant almost completely on its imaginative powers for complex, high level problem solving.  However the imagination can be so powerful, the real and unreal, have a thin line, a line so thin, the only way the human brain can cope, and distinguish between the two, is through dreams.  If you don't dream, the neurons in charge of separating reality from fantasy can become short circuited.

The reason traumatic events can cause trauma, has to do that one of the ways the mind deals with it, is by "going somewhere else."  Serial killers become what they are because, their mothers are often cold, brutal women who do not love them.  So how come adoptive children, or children not raised by their mothers but under equally abusive women don't become serial killers?  The answer is simple; harshness from a stranger, sooner or later you get over it if it does not happen again.  Harshness from your own flesh and blood though, and boy does it hurt.  Adoptive kids do not become serial killers because in addition to not carrying such horrible genes making them prone to cruel behavior, because the adoptive mother, or guardian isn't a blood relative, well, let me just say you just don't give a c**p.  Serial killers however are not so lucky; to escape the trauma of constant abuse, and not being loved, pretty soon their imaginary world becomes so real, they are beyond all hope, treatment, or help.  Lets see the feminist movement deal with the mom's of serial killers; it is far worse to be poisoned by an evil woman over a long period, than to be killed in a few minutes by an angry man.  The damage that can be done by one woman, can be far worse than that done by a man, as most men will never see the halls of power, anywhere in the world.

This is an interesting question but I am sad to tell you no one knows the answer to it.  At the risk of sounding like a douche here I would say watch lots of romantic p**n.  If you can find romantic p**n.....  I'M SERIOUS.  If you collect pictures of nothing but the most beautiful women, that would help.  Also, chicks generally do not have as much nightmares as guys do.  Their secret?  Believe it or not romance novels and chick flicks.

We guys, admitedly, watch a lot of violent c**p, so its only natural we have more nightmares.  Last night for example I had a nightmare that Akira Yuki was smacking the c**p out of me.  If you are familiar with the VF 5 character, you know that could not have been pleasant.  What has been found, is that whatever you expose yourself to, that is what you dream about, although, it only increases the likelihood of having nice dreams it doesn't guarantee it.  If you bombard your mind with images of nothing but beautiful women, avoid violent video games, at least playing them for marathon sessions, and only watch the most meaningful or funny action flicks, that will go a long way.

Last night I dreamt Akira Yuki was smacking the c**p out of me because I played Virtua Fighter 5, 2 hours a day for a week running.  Normally I play a fighting game maybe 30 minutes.  Maybe; the most I can stand is a couple of rounds before I get bored with it for the day.  Case in point, overexposure, will lead your mind to dream about it.  I had a problem with fear of zombies once, and I kept having nightmares about it for years since I was a kid.  However I picked up Dead Rising, and in a messed up but effective form of "self therapy," I cured myself.  Arigato, Inafune san, wherever you are, for helping me heal my until then lifetime phobia of zombies.  Arigato, Inafune san.  Don't mess with the K man!  He also made Mega Man you know.....

Beside the point; you want to dream about the person, expose yourself them.  I do not mean stalking; I mean, I don't know, write short stories about them or something, and get that energy out of your system by writting erotic stories.  I once wrote an erotic story involving 2,345 asian american women.  That's a lot of ho's man.....

Ultimately though, just find something "healthy and wholesome" and bombard your mind with that.

    good luck.
