Is it possible to pick a lock with a bobby pin? And by lock, I mean a house lock. Today I was in a situation where I was locked out of my house for 2 hours because I forgot my keys. Any tips on how to pick a lock? With anything. Not just a bobby pin. Links to sites would help :)

Locks have gotten more sophisticated over the years.  They work on a set of tumblers that have to be moved together to unlock.  Today's locks would be difficult to unlock with a pin.  Best bet is to have your key with you.  You could hide one outside or give one to a trusted neighbor as a backup depending on how safe your neighborhood may be.

If it were easy, there'd be a lot more break-ins. MythBusters did a lock picking episode, and it took one of them over 2 hours to figure it out using a professional kit. I think you're out of luck.

Probably not - they make it look easy in the movies.  Locksmiths have special tools for picking different types of locks.

Just have your parents make a spare key and hide it somewhere outside your home.

id look for a window to get in.   The chances of having a closed yet unlocked window are higher than lockpicking.  If the window isnt locked, you could remove the screen lift the window and climb in.  At a guess, Id say that is how most cat burglers get into the average home.  Just watch out for the police.  You could still get a night in jail for breaking and entering.  But the best practice is giving a spare key to someone you trust.
