Question:

How can you pick up a package at the post office?

I just recently ordered Christmas gifts for my family online. The site that I ordered the gifts from is shipping them to my house. Is there any way that I can tell the post office to hold my package at the post office and not ship it to my house? (It is a surprise)!

  1. I just gave you a star because I want to know the answer too.  I know you can have the post office hold your mail, but to only hold select items? I doubt it.  It'd be very cool if they can though!

  2. you should have had it shipped to another address.  unless it needs to be signed for, it will be delivered to your house.  OOPS!

  3. I would try calling the Post Office to see if they can hold your mail there. I've had them hold mail before since I was on vacation and it was no problem. However if there are other people in thehouse they might not want their mail held. Good Luck.

  4. You can call your local post office and ask to speak with the carrier on the route you live.  If you give them your address they will get the appropriate carrier.  When the carrier gets on the phone explain the situation and ask them to hold any packages at the post office for pick up.  When the package comes you will get an orange paper (a form called a 3849) stating you have a package and to pick it up at such and such post office.  Most carriers are pretty understanding and will make note of it and leave a note for other carriers that may be on the route when they are off.
