How can you post a Live Journal comment that appears blank?

I've noticed that some people on Live Journal post blank comments, leaving an illustrative icon to get their point across. But whenever I try an error message comes up saying I need to fill the comment box with something.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Have you tried entering spaces?  I don't know if it works on Live Journal, but in some programs it works.
