  1. Well if your boyfriends motocross bike is not road legal  by definition he will not be insured or Mot`d to ride the bike on a road let alone a footpath.

This is the reason the police confiscated his bike and rightly so.

If your boyfriend is irresponsible then his bike should be crushed !

  2. Tough lesson. The police are 100% right and your boyfriend has, in ignorance, paid a heavy price. He must have known that he was beaking the law. If not he shouldn't be on any kind of bike.

  3. While he did do the wrong thing hopefully he will be able to recover the bike as it is a lot of money to lose.

If he racesmx then he should have the engine number and frame number written somewhere as I know a lot of races that I enter my sons into I have to put these numbers on the entry forms.

Other than that he could contact the shop he purchased the bike through as they should have a record of the engine number and frame number from the sale.

Failing that does the bike have racing stickers on it with numbers as he should have a picture of himself on the bike if at a mx meet.

  4. Yeah, sorry to say, but he was in the wrong.

Granted it sounds like the police were been a bit over the top, but I guess they could not been  seen as not to do anything.

Im sure he can explain the problem and hopfully get it resolved.

Like Auburns says, if and tracks have his Vin / engine number, he may be able to get it back that way.

  5. It is illegal to drive ANY motorised vehicle on a UK highway without insurance, so your BF is wrong and the police are right. He would only not need insurance if he was riding it on private land, which he was not.

  6. sounds like the facist bully boys are doing their good work. If the bike was not on private land they will nick it and claim its an uninsured vehicle.

  7. He was riding this bike which was not insured. On the pavement was a double crime. Had he not been on the pavement they would probably not have taken any notice of him. Even in that apparently short time it would be possible to cause an injury to a third party. He should contact the police and ask what he needs to do to retrieve his bike. He should be nice and even tempered, no swearing and no raised voice. Express great sorrow for disregarding the law and ask them to help him. He may need to take out a 3rd party cover for this bike in order to get it back. Then he will never have this problem again and can ride on the road any time he needs to.
