  1. For HD you need 3 things:

    -Hardware: TV Set, Dish, Connections-

    -Receiver

    -Programming in HD

You can get HD programming from your local stations for free but you still need the HD tv set connected to an off air antenna (on the roof)

  2. You must have a High Definition television in order to get HD programming.  So it sounds like you need to go buy a High Def TV first.

Once you have an HD TV, then you must subscribe to HD programming, and also you must buy or rent an HD Set-Top-Box (STB).  You must also have the correct cable connections, like an HDMI cable (costs $60 to $300 just for the cable).

If you have an HD TV that has a digital tuner built-in, then you must buy an HD antenna to mount on your roof.  In that case, you do not need to subscribe to any HD programming, and you don't need to buy or rent an HD STB.  You also wouldn't need the HDMI cable either.  But you will only receive local channels that are broadcasting in HD.

In summary, you cannot watch HD on a regular Standard Def (SD), nor on an Enhanced Def (ED) television.  It must be an HD TV.

    Hope this helps.
