Question:

How can you protect a car's paint from getting corroded?

I normally would park my car inside the garage at night, but since my dad's office has been moved to a different location, all of the file boxes and cabinets have been stacked inside the garage, and I don't have any room to park my car in.

Now that I park my car outside, I'm afraid that my car's paint clearcoat would corrode, and fade away. I guess washing my car once a week would do. Any other suggestions? I have Meguiar's Car Wash Gel (or whatever that stuff is), along with the Quik Wax (the spray kind) which I spray on after I dry it off with a chamois.

  1. its a car! you get more damage to the paint driveing down the road from rocks and everything on the road then it could ever get from sitting out side . and since when does paint corrode??? or fade away??? yeah like i said its a car dude

  2. Regular washing and the spray wax is good.  If you are going to park outside full time, I would make sure to put a coat of paste wax on every other month or so too.  Wax does a lot to protect the paint so it's important and the spray stuff does not really last that long.

  3. Sun and the weather will mess it up no matter what you do.

    Cover it somehow.

  4. You mean your paint will Oxidize. John Q said it rite...WAX IT!! & not with that spray wax.

  5. Well actually is all you use is quik wax washing your car weekly is just going to help detteriorate your clear coat faster.  The best thing to do is to use a little elbow grease and regular wax or "paste wax" and wax the car.  I really like "Ice" super shine, and last about as long as regular wax but with half the work.  But even if you didn't wash and wax your car the clear coat should still going to last a good 5 years.  Factory clear coat that is.

  6. Wax it. Wax on wax off.
