If they are not old enough for shots...

Or what about when mama dog is pregnant, can you give mama dog a shot to protect pups?

  1. No, however, when the pups drink the mothers milk the colostrom contains antibodies to help protect the pups immune system.  It's best to keep them indoors and away from other dogs until they are able to get their first round of shots at 6 weeks of age.

Parvo is usually picked up from other dogs f***s so stay away from areas that other dogs congregate.  If you have a fenced in yard and you know your dog is fully vaccinated then allowing them in the back yard when they are much bigger should be ok.  Make sure that their welping bed and area is very clean, picking up your yard and keeping it f***s free helps.  As long as your house and their area is very clean along with your yard they should be ok.

  2. You need to keep your puppies away from people and other dogs, besides immediate family and dogs that have been vaccinated, until they get their shots. You should not give a pregnant dog any shots as you never know how it will affect the pups.

  3. Not sure about giving mom a shot, but with my 2 puppies they explained that parvo is mainly spread through contact with f***s, so they recommended I keep them away from public parks, dog parks, any public grounds where dogs could have pooped.  Within your own yard is fine provided no contamination could happen, but even walking the babies around the neighborhood is risky without shots.

  4. You can NOT give a pregnant ***** vaccinations. She should be up to date before she gets pregnant. If her immunities are good, then the "first milk', which is actually not milk, but colostrum imparts immunities to the neo-nates.Colostrum is a clearish fluid, and is produced the first 24 hours or so after whelping.

As long as the pups are nursing, to withinn two weeks of weaning, the pups should be covered. This is why most vaccinations are given around 8 weeks old. Vaccinations and natural immunities cancel each other out in some cases.

  5. The mama's milk has antibodies that help protect the pup. Parvo is contracted through f***s only. The only problem is the virus is EVERYWHERE! It can ONLY be killed with bleach and can live even on your shoes for 6-9 months. Don't let the pup outside or around other dogs, except the mama and pups from same litter. Make sure you get the vaccines done as soon as the pup is old enough. Don't give mama any shots.
