I'm worried about my savings now that the economy is in crisis.

  1. I go one further because I've experienced bank failure in the past.  Never have more than $100,000 in any one FDIC account and never have more than that in one bank, spread it out at different banks.  That way you will always have access immediately to cash should one of the banks in your "savings portfolio" fail.


  2. Accounts are protected up to $100,000.  If you have more than that you need to make sure that each account is titled differently so that you are insured.  One of the bankers at you bank can help you with that.  May parents have several hundred thousand dollars and the banker helped my parents title each of them so that each different account is protected.
