How can you reset your computer if you've forgotten your administrative password ?

i have a administrative account & also i active guest account on my computer. i moved out from my parents for a little over a year, when i went to log onto my administrative account, i realized i didn't remember the password anymore. i can't reset just the password to the administrative because my guest account doesn't have administrative privileges.

so does anyone know how i could reset my computer back to the factory default settings ?

Assuming you use Windows XP:

Have you tried rebooting into Safe-Mode? When you get to the log-in screen you are shown the "Administrator" account which is normally hidden and by default doesn't have a password set.

Once in you can go to the Control Panel then User Accounts and change or remove the password from your user account.

An old hacker trick is to identify the clock battery on the mother board and disconnect the jack while unit is turned off-unpluged.this should reset code without losing files

Go to safe mode then click on administrator (in safe mode no pass needed)

Then click start - run - cmd - then you type -- net user administrator -- then you type what pass you want -- and voila done!

for tip! : you might want to type this too =)-- --      net user administrator password     ---   end! =)

hi you can either boot from your system disk that should have come with the system and reinstall windows, or search the web for hirens boot disk, this will allow you to boot from the disk and reset the admin password, feel free to email me if you need more info

Unplug the computer, remove the CMOS battery.  Wait a couple of minutes and re-insert the Battery.  Re-enter a password, if you want one and you are good to go.
